How to Activate WiFi Calls on iPhones and Other Devices

WiFi calls on the iPhone allow you to make or receive phone calls using Wi-Fi in areas with little or no cell coverage. You can use it on iPhone 5c or newer at globally supported carriers. When activated, you see the word “Wi-Fi” or “Wi-Fi Call” in the top bar next to the operator’s name. Some telecommunications companies also allow you to activate it for other iCloud devices. So, without further ado, let’s learn how to use WiFi calls on your iPhone.

How to Activate WiFi Calls on an iPhone

  1. Open the Settings application on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Phone.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Call.1
  4. Activate the switch for Wi-Fi Calls on This iPhone.2

If you don’t see an option for Wi-Fi Calls, then make sure your operator supports it.

For some operators, you can also see this option under the Settings → Cellular application.

To turn off Wi-Fi calling, follow the exact same steps, and tap the switch in step 4.

How to Turn on WiFi Calls for Other Devices

Wi-Fi calling is supported by a large number of operators globally. But very few like AT&T, Ting, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile USA support Wi-Fi Calls on Other Devices. You can see the complete list at the link above.

Before you begin: Make sure you use the same Apple ID to log in to iCloud and Face Time on other Apple devices like iPad and Mac.

Here’s how to add a device for Wi-Fi Calls:

  1. Open the Settings application on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Phone.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Call.3
  4. Turn on the switch to Add Wi-Fi Calls For Other Devices.
  5. Go back and tap Calls on Other Devices.
  6. Turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices and then use the switch for your device that is eligible to use it with Wi-Fi Calls.4

Receive Calls on iPad, iPod Touch or Mac

To make and receive Wi-Fi calls on your other Apple devices, make sure your other device receives calls from your iPhone by following this guide.

Note: Your Apple Watch automatically receives Wi-Fi calls when you enable Allow Calls on other devices.
