Apple Spotlight Search is the fastest way to find and open applications. You can also use it to search within the application and see Siri Suggestions. Not satisfied with the Spotlight search results? Here’s how to adjust it on your iPhone and iPad.
How to Disable Siri Suggestions in Spotlight Search
When you swipe the iPhone or iPad Home Screen, you will see the recommended applications and actions below the Search bar. This is the work of the Siri Suggestions feature.
Apple uses Siri intelligence to find out which applications are most likely to be opened at a certain time, and sometimes suggests a number of actions that you often take at the same time every day. For example, you might get suggestions for calling your important people, to view albums in the Photos application, suggestions for activating your wake-up alarm, or to activate Siri shortcuts that you use frequently.
These suggestions are not always accurate, and if you find one or two of them annoying, press and hold an item then tap the “Close” button to remove it from the suggestion.
But if you are not at all interested in the application and the recommended actions section, there is a simple way to deactivate both.
Open the “Settings” application on your iPhone or iPad. Here, open the “Siri & Search” section.
Scroll down and tap on the switch next to the “Suggestions In Search” option.
Now, when you swipe your iPhone or iPad Home Screen, you won’t find any suggestions.
How to Deactivate Spotlight Search for Applications
So, now that you’ve hidden the suggestions from the Spotlight search menu, it’s time to customize the search results yourself. Spotlight Search is a sophisticated search engine and supports in-depth search for many applications (default and third parties).
This means that when you search for something, you might find results from the Notes application, the Calendar application, or even the third party application that you have installed. This is very useful but can also be annoying. What if you don’t want to bring up what’s in one of your hundreds of notes?
Here, scroll down until you find the application you want to delete from the Spotlight search results and then tap on the list.
Now, select the toggle next to the “Show In Search” option to delete it from the search results. (This will also disable app Shortcuts suggestions.)
Certain application search results will now be removed from Spotlight search. You can repeat this process for any application that you want to exclude from Spotlight search.
Just like Spotlight, you can also search in the Settings application on your iPhone or iPad.
